Hi there can any one help.

I have a WMA32 that now and again stops mid cycle.

For instance I can set it to wash say programme E, the machine will wash correctly but when it changes over to the rinse and spin cycle it just stops and the following lights come on

    Door Lock On
    PreWash Off
    Wash On
    Rinse / Spin On
    Final Spin On
    End Off

The machine will just sit there and not progress the cycle, I have even waited up to an hour with no progress.

But if you reset the machine on the dial to the rinse/spin it will go on its merry way and complete the wash.

Any ideas please ??? as this is driving my wife and I nuts .

Difficult to guess, those lights are not really a specific error code. The first thing I would be checking is the sump hose filter, situated in the large black rubber hose under the drum. Mains plug out and a bowl and some towels required. It is possible that it is not draining correctly, it may have emptied some water but not enough to allow the machine to go into spin, resetting may just give it enough time to achieve this. If it is plumbed direct into the sink waste then that also needs inspecting for partial obstructions.

    Thanks,

    My thought process as well,

I have checked the sump and the outlet pipes ect and all are clear, I have also changed the pump, as the bearing had gone and was very noisy in operation. I also have an exchange control module in the machine at the moment, but still the stopping mid cycle persists.

The only other thing I have noticed is a buzzing sound from the machine at about the time the pump should kick in, just before the rinse cycle starts this lasts for a couple of minutes. Then the pump starts up and all is usually ok. Thinking back if the pump fails to kick in after the buzzing sound, then it stops the cycle.

This is starting to get complicated….

    Any more ideas please

Where did you obtain the replacement pump, certain ‘non gen’ pumps are of very dubious quality, it sounds very much like a sticking pump to me.

One other thing you can do if the outlet pipe empties into a stand pipe is to remove the rubber , non return flap valve from the pump outlet, I have not seen one fail for a while but they have been known to stick in the past. you can also do this if the machine is plumbed into the sink waste, as long as the outlet hose is routed above the lowest level of the sink in an inverted ‘U’ shape.

I cant remember who I bought the pump from as I have all the paperwork at home, It looked like a large established company on the internet, The pump looked identical to the old one, and the quality of build looked the same….

You have got me wondering now as to wether its the pump not starting up when it should do, so when it wants to start the rinse and spin there is still water in the drum??

    Maybe more investigation is needed

In my experience with these machines if there is a drain problem it doesn’t show a fault code. If the machine doesn’t empty it will carry on and go into a spin and throw the water all over the floor out through the soapbox.

Check and make sure there is enough water pressure and that it isn’t filling too slow and that the drum rotates in the wash so it’s not a brush problem.

It will only go into spin and throw water out of the soap box if the pressure chamber part of the sump is blocked or restricted, thus preventing the pressure switch from sensing the machine still has water in it. If the pump is faulty, jammed or blocked but the pressure chamber is clear it will not spin but will flash all the lights.

Also the prewash light will flash if the machine fails to fill properly.

In my experience that is. 😉

    Hi there

    Fingers crossed, problem solved..

First the original pump was faulty, it didnt was to start up all the time due to it being worn out, thus the machine would not go into its rinse and spin cycle because there was still water in the drum.

Later inspection revieled that the inner debris basket in the sump can be very easily dislodged when putting things back together, also, eventhough the basket can be put in correctly ( there is an ofset spigot in the bottom)
the holes in the basket dont line up with the outlet hose at the bottom.

So some times when the pump started up the basket would partialy block the outlet, and the pump sequence would time out with water still in the drum.

I drilled a couple of holes in the inner basket where the outlet is, put it all back together and its worked perfectly for the last 3 weeks and 20 washes or so.

I hope this helps others who have had a similar problems

    Keith
