ParticipantHi,
Hope seomebody can help me. My Hotpoint WMA34 will not rotate the drum. It fills full of water but won’t actually spin the drum. Can this be easily fixed? The machine is approx. 5 years old.If I need a replacement I was looking at a Bosch 1400 Classixx machine or a Hotpoint WT761 1600 rpm spin speed. Both machines are within £10 of each other with the Bosch being the more expensive. Which one of these two would be the one to buy? I was hoping to get a little more than 5 years out of the next purchase!
Cheers,

If you want more than 5 years out of the next machine, then I suggest buying a Miele.
Of the 2 you mention, I would only consider the Bosch.

At 5 years, the machine may just need a new pair of brushes in the motor. Have a read of this:

Simple (and cheap) maintenance job.You will find suitable replacements here:

Of the two machines you listed, I’d take the Bosch; but bear in mind that you get what you pay for. I’d seriously suggest adding another £50 to the budget.

Cheers Penguin. How can I tell if the brushes are faulty?
Will I need to remove the motor from the machine?Penguin, prices are different everywhere! There has been £50 difference between two stores for exactly the same model! Can you suggest a good model/make of machine?

You will need to remove the motor to check/change the brushes. I would strongly suggest you explore this avenue either yourself or by using a local independent engineer. If the drum bearings are sound you could get many more years of use out of this machine with a new set of brushes.
A much cheaper option than buying a new machine.
Jim.
