I have a hotpoint wma34 washing machine that is leaking slightly. If I remove the plastic cover at the fronf of the machine (at the bottom) it reveals a metal plate. The leak appears to be coming from there. I have had the bearings replaced a few months ago plus the spin cycle is fairly quiet so I doubt this is the cause of the problem. Any ideas please ?

The first thing to look for are small holes in the door seal, the usual cause of leaks from the front, look carefully inside the folds.

ok, will do. Thanks for the advice. My only comment though is that there is no evidence of water around the door of the machine ?

You would not see water down the front of the machine from a hole in the door seal, unless the lip of the seal was damaged or the water was leaking from the soap dispenser due to drawer needing cleaning or very high water pressure.

Thanks for the reply. Does the door seal require special tools to fit – i.e. will I need a Hotpoint engineer if this is the problem ?

That is a question that only you can answer, not a technically difficult job, but then I have done many hundreds of them 😉 and practise makes perfect. No specialist tools required but you have to remove the front panel, I can say no more than that, please be sure to remove the plug before proceeding further.

Did you find a hole in the seal?

The most common fault for leaking is a blocked fab cond compartment very rarely is it the door seal, i change very little seals usualy cause for change are manky seals not for leaking, i would say approx 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} leaking problems are the dispenser area.

thanks for the advice folks. I had a look at the door seal and short of using a magnifying glass couldn’t see any obvious signs of a hole or rip. I’ll have a look at the dispenser as this sounds like the easiest thing to remedy if it is causing the problem.

Out of interest, why would a blockage cause a leak from behind the metal plate at the front of the machine ?

Some water will run down the front, round the door and under the plastic kickstrip, you don’t always notice it on the front unless you are looking for it, water can also leak down the inside of the cabinet front panel from the dispenser. As well as cleaning, try reducing your water pressure by adjusting the hot & cold taps so that you get a nice steady flow of water rather than a loud gushing sound.
