ParticipantI have a WMA34 that is very noisy and rocks from side-to-side on the spin (1000 rpm fixed). I had it checked out last year by a Hotpoint technician as it was under a service plan, and he said it was fine. The feet keep need adjusting as they get out of alignment (probably by the rocking).
I had the whole drum replaced about 2-3 years ago (I would say it is 4-5 years old) and I was sure it was the drum again but the technician didn’t seem to think so.
When you rotate the drum it is smooth with no noise and there doesn’t appear to be much play up and down. It is better with lighter loads of washing so I just try not to do heavier loads at the moment. Almost all my washes are at 40 deg C and I use soap powder/tablets. I also use a washing machine cleaner every so often on a hot wash.
Please can anyone help as its driving my neighbour downstairs mad! I live in a first floor flat with wooden floorboards. I have bought some special shock-insulating rubber stuff and put it under the feet which has helped a bit but not much.
Thanks,
Jo

Could be a loose concrete counterbalance weight maybe?

Thanks – is there any way I can check for that before calling someone out?

Could anyone help diagnose whether it is a loose counterweight causing the problem? I called someone out before and they simply said there were no problems with it!
I had a look at the post at “Hotpoint ULTIMA 1000 WM74P Spin Problem” and thought it could be a drum support causing the problem, although the noise isn’t that loud. When I move the drum forward and back, it seems to knock against the back but I don’t know whether that is normal.
Thanks,
Jo

It’s a completely different machine to yours Jo and does not bear any relation to your problem 🙁
Loose conterweight or drum bearing problems are the 2 options to investigate. If there’s brown rust stains on the floor under your machine, then thats a dead give-away to bearing failure 🙁

Ok, thanks for that – I guess I’ll call the Hotpoint engineer out then!

:eeek:
£90 call-out charge for Hotpoint! 😯
Try Repairs@ first?
You might get free parts off Hotpoint, so £90 is all you pay, where a local engineer might have no call-out charge, then charge you £90 for the work.
‘Swings and roundabouts’ yes, but I’ll guarantee the local engineer will get to you quicker 😉
