Our Hotpoint WMA37 has broken – everything works except the drum won’t spin. It has made an horrendous noise on a few occassion in the last few weeks so expected it to break. Local independent (over the phone) said probably the bearings and will fix for £120 – however, Hotpoint will fix for £90 as parts guaranteed for 5yrs (labour charge). Also, we paid £90 to Hotpoint to fix it 2 years ago but I can’t remember what the problem was.

The question is will it be worth paying to be fixed at nearly 5 years old?

I realise this is a difficult question with no one straight answer so looking for feedback really. We are particularly skint at the moment (recently self employed) so if advice is to replace I will be buying a reconditioned unit at about £130 with 3 months warranty from the Local Independent anyway. Should I stick or should I go?

Firstly, you should never ignore a noise, always get it sorted ASAP.

I would go for the Hotpoint fix. You will not be able to buy anything decent second hand for that price and all the parts required will be fitted.

So there you have it, a straight answer. 🙂 Remember, almost all second hand machines have already been thrown out so £130.00 is only going to get you more trouble like as not. In this case, better the devil you know.

You might even get Hotpoint to offer you a repair plus contract. Usually around £149.00 which includes a 12 month parts & labour guarantee, a far better option than 3 months on a second hand machine.

    Jim.
