ParticipantHi all,
Brushes went in this last week taking out a trace on the control panel. Replacement brushes arrived Wednesday from shop@ and I’ve fixed the damaged trace which was stopping the door from locking.I’m giving this one last go before either buying a new panel (£95) or breaking the bank for a new machine….
Now on a test spin, with the machine empty, the motor spins up for a second or so then stops, drum moves smoothly when rotating by hand and it fills and empties OK. The “end” LED never comes on when the door unlocks and the whole cycle seems to fly by – I’m wondering if there’s a counter or timer circuit on the control panel that’s been damaged and it’s making the thing fly through the cycle in seconds rather than minutes.
Thoughts?

The triac for the motor will be blown. Motor ramps briefly without speed control, computer says “wrong speed” and shuts it all down……..
Also possible that there is broken wiring around the area of the concrete weight on the front of the drum – this can give the same symptoms.
Power off of course, please.

Thanks penguin.
Will check the triacs on the controller and the wiring. Looks like a new controller should sort it as everthing else seems OK.February 16, 2008 at 2:42 pm #243405helo_75

Thanks. Just checked and it’s OK – there are 2 lugs on 1 side of the connector and 1 on the other to help with orientation.

Yep, especially if it saves me £95!

Hi all,
I replaced the triacs but there was still something wrong with the controller so I called in hotpoint repair. For £99 they fitted a new controller. 1 year warranty on the part too.For the DIYers on the forum that’s maybe a good option when you’ve narrowed it down a bit. As it’s a fixed price repair I expect they make their money by collecting £99 when it’s just brushes or another low cost part.
Thanks again for the advice.

A low cost part such as this module which actually costs them peanuts. :rolls:
