    Hello,

I have had my Hotpoint WMA46 washing machine for 5 years, it has been quite uneventful until earlier today….

I was washing some nappies, as I usually do. I went upstairs, and when I came back the kitchen was flooded! 😯 I turned off the washer on the dial (I couldn’t get to the mains) I have looked at the drainage tube, the water was coming out of this fine, but water was escaping from the door and the soap drawer.

Once the washer was empty of water I stupidly tried to see if it was ok now

😳 and the same thing happened again. When the door is closed the seal looks odd, like it’s squashed up against the door. I’m totally clueless about these things but I know that’s not right!

Do you think the seal may need replacing? Does anybody know how much this could cost?

I’m not sure wether to get it mended or buy a new one (If it will cost a lot to mend)

    Flaming washer!!! 👿 👿

    Can anybody offer any advice?

    Kindest regards,
    Scarlett.

It appears to be overfilling, pressure switch or blockage some where this regulates the correct level of water, unless you feel confident I would suggest you contact a local repair man out try repairs@ on left, he would be able to let you know if its a costly repair.

If it found to be a blockage I would suggest you do a maintenance wash periodicaly, especially if you live in a hard water area.

    Hope this helps

    Hello,

    thank you for your reply.

Yes I forgot to mention the overfilling! You are very good! 😀

Well I think it might actually be blocked, somewhere. I don’t know as I can’t locate the fliter (It’s not at the front and I can’t get to the back).

I bought some new washable baby wipes and was prewashing them with my nappies when the washer broke. I noticed that the wipes were frayed all around the edges, and my nappy mesh bag was covered in large bits of cotton which had come from the edges of the cloths…. I feel like I’m answering my own question here as it was fine till then….

And to think, I bought those cloth wipes to save money! 🙄 Now I’m going to pay out to have it mended! 😆 😆 Oh deary me! 😳

Do you have a rough guide how much that may cost? I’ve got no money at all on me, so I’d need to take a trip to the atm before the repair man came out. I don’t want to be embarrassed by taking out not enough money….

Luckily enough, we live in a soft water area (Leeds, West Yorkshire) but I do a service wash about once a month. With me ussing it so often (1-2 times per day) I do a 90 degree wash with nothing in the washer, sometimes with bicarb or white vinegar and it’s been great, till now!

I thought maybe the seal might be broken, but with what you said, it sounds like it could be blocked. I do hope so! It sounds cheaper and easlier to mend!!

    Thanks again!
    Kindest regards,
    Scarlett.

I can think of at least one UKW repairer covering North Leeds – click on the red tool box.

In the meantime, drop the drain hose down into a bucket or washing up bowl and allow the water to drain by gravity – keep an eye on it as you’ll have to do it several times if it has grossly overfilled.

    Hi,

    thanks for your reply.

Do I still need to do that if the drum is empty? I did manage to get it to empty itself, I just set the ‘rince & spin’ option, after switching off the water so it couldn’t fill up.

Yes I found the two local repairers, I’m going to call one tomorrow and hopefully I can get it sorted out soon!

    Kindest regards,
    Scarlett.

    **** Update****

Being a curious type of person; I took the back off the washer earlier on. I found the motor (well I think it was!) something with a huge elastic on, and the pump. No filter though! 😕 All that bloomin messing around for nowt!

I put the pipe in a bucket and nothing came out, that must be a good thing…. ❓ I read the filter is around or behind the pump. I could not see it and didn’t feel confident enough to poke around in there.

So I shall get somebody out, me thinks 💡

    Kindest regards,
    Scarlett.
