ParticipantI have a Hotpoint Aquarius WMA46, which is just under 3 years old, but has had heavy use from a family with two children. The door open indicator light has flashed for a while, and required a firm push to close the door. Recently I couldn’t get the light to stop flashing at all.
I have bought and replaced the interlock( part metalflex ZV-446), but still get the flashing light. Having read some of the posts it sounds like the circuit board may have been blown as well.
Before either scraping the machine or paying for a costly call out, is there anyway I can check the connectivitly of the switch or the washing machine, to confirm the problem.Any help would be appreciated.

Rather than encourage you to do this, look at it another way. there is basicly only the switch and a board on that model, you have replaced one without success so it must be the other. The board itself is less than £60 but it will need configering so I would recommend an engineer. If you do try to test anything, ensure it is unplugged from the mains first.

That is what I thought, but I wondered whether there were any continuity tests I could do on switch/machine, as I don’t know which contacts on the switch should be open/closed.
If not I guess I need to think whether it is worth getting a repair man to look at it, as I guess I am looking at a bill of ~£100, and then worry about what is going to break next. Or should I put the money towards a new machine.
Thanks,
Brian

It will be visably damaged normally, blown tracks etc.
Please ensure the power is off when checking :zap:

Also worth mentioning that the machine is covered by Hotpoint’s 5 year parts warranty. You will only pay their ‘modest’ 😥 labour charge, just don’t tell them you have already tried to repair it.

I had a quick look at the board and it looks like burnt out tracks. Now I need to see which is cheaper local repair man or Hotpoint. As although I think I could change the board myself, I don’t like the sound of this configuring.
Thanks for all your advise

If the control module is blown check wiring down by the bottom balance weight has not been rubbing on it, but i would guess your machine is fitted with a Bosch motor. You can tell if it is as the brush holders have a white cover on them, if you have better phone Hotpoint as the Bosch motor is cr@p and has a habit of blowing module and door interlock when brushes go. They will replace motor with FHP motor which is quieter also.

Hi, I have the hotpoint WMA 58 for about 2 years and uses the same door switch (METALFLEX ZV-446) It seems this is a comon fault, after not having the use of the washing machine for over a week now, and only just had the time to investigate. The door lock light on the panel does nothing but flash, which indicates the door cant lock therfore wont start the cycle.
My question is u said you replaced this item. just wondered where you purchased it from? i have found it online germany for about 17euros but is there anywhere in the uk i can source one and how much did it cost?
Many ThanksNovember 19, 2005 at 12:45 pm #152891cornwell40

Hi all, thanks for the replies.
After purchasing a replacement door interlock for the Hotpoint WMA 58 and fitting it, I still have the same problem.
Try to start a wash and the door lock led/light on the panel does nothing but flash!
I have mislaid my manual so cant find the fault.
Does anyone know why it is flashing? if they have a book for the same washer? Or is there likely to be another problem? or generally is my washing machine now officially Knackered?
Mnay Thanks

It is a well known fact here in the trade that Door Interlocks when they fail, do often blow the control module unit (Part No: 1604321- about £60 ish). I fear that has happened in this instant 🙁

Have the same problem looking at the door latch METALFLEX ZV-446 from a GORENJE WA50140 washing machine
Had it on its front to get at the back heater element. Found there was no fault with the heater as it read 28 ohms. My problems in a cold cycle must have been down to too low water pressure – fixed that by moving the tiny tag on the pipe t joint with pliers to the right pressure. (I was measuring the pressure from the tap rather than the intlet assuming it was all the same!).But I think the concrete block moved forwards too much while messing about at the back, and now get a flashing light start button, and the Higher water level (Water plus) button is on, which indicates the door latch is open.
So have taken the door latch off, looked it over and it looks ok to me.
But there seems to be tiny dents in the plastic holding the concrete block. Directly across from this is a tiny popout pcb board. I assume its the control circuit. This ties in with what people are saying above, and the fact that I had a large concreate block maybe pressing into it from laying the machine down on its front. It seems unbelievable that Gorenje havent sealed the pcb mainboard (behind the controls) and components with a case. Any water gets in and thats it – Or, if the machine tilts forwards enough the pcb is placed under stress!
I will have to pop out the popout pcb and trace all the tracks and repair with silver pcb paint!
