Its possibly only taken out the overload. A TOC17 from Qualtex plus a couple of butt connectors should do the trick, change loads of them with new armatures when the comm has flashed across.
It slots into the windings at the side, pull the motor apart and you will see it.
I can’t see the armature in the Shop@ here?
Jim.
EDIT. TOC is HERE

Thanks Jim,
You are well up on Hotpoints.
Will get it and take it apart.

One tip when replacing the new overload, don’t push it in too far or it will foul against the rotor. I use the TOC17 from Qualtex and always snip the front corners of the plastic sheath to help prevent it fouling.
If you cut the wires to the old overload as near as possible to the overload itself it is possible to reconnect the new one to the original wiring with butt connectors rather than trying to reconnect into the motor plug. Just snip the excess wiring off the new TOC, leaving just over an inch of wire is enough.
Jim.

The toc is in line with the armature rather than with the field, isn’t it? Therefore if Rob says the field is o/c it is unlikely to be the toc. ❓

Never seen a field coil go O/C on one of these motors and I have seen one or two in the past 40 odd years. 😉
Sorry, I did see one, this bloke stuck his screwdriver right through the windings trying to get the brushes out. 😥

You can get the genuine TOC:

It’s the field coil that is o/c. Customer tried to fit his own brushes and blew it up, he said there was a big flash and he was left in darkness. Should have rung me in the first place.Rob
Sounds to me like this customer may have been working with less than consummate skill! Therefore o/c field coil not so unlikely!

Got to the motor and seems he also had the screwdriver out and so field is very burnt. New motor on order :rolls:
Thanks for all the help, great as ever.
