ParticipantThe chopper board on my WMA63 has two resistors burnt out, On the board they are labelled R10 and R11 The R10 is on the edge next to the 7 pin connector, while the R11 is under the heat sink, next to the large blue rectangular capacitor. Can anyone please tell me the size of each resistor.
Thanks,February 19, 2011 at 8:24 am #345108Seamy

It’s a bit of a Russian roulette scenario replacing a component if you don’t establish what caused it to blow/burn in the first place. As an engineer I’ve never replaced an individual component but always replaced a complete p.c.b. Be careful doing any d.i.y repairs to electronic boards as there are obvious fire hazard/risks if the components overheat.

ParticipantBroadly agreeing with the above in this case, something else is probably failed short-circuit causing excess current through these components.
Changing components such as power transistors can be OK though as they fail relatively frequently.

Failure of this board is quite a rare occurrence. As stated above 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain to be caused by failure or short circuit elsewhere.
The main motor and all of the wiring harness would be the first place to look. Motor needs testing for insulation faults although these machines always had the FHP motor fitted which is a decent motor. It is very common for the wiring harness to chafe badly on the lower, front concrete balance weight.
Door interlocks also short across inside but that wouldn’t normally take out the chopper board.

Sorry I didn’t mention that I had already found the wires between the board and the motor exposed and so causing a short. But I have no idea what the size of the resistors are. They are now both open circuit.

In all honesty mate you really would be better off biting the bullet & either sending the board to a repairer such as EMW or buying a new board, 2 fried resistors may not be your only problem. Just make sure that you’ve found & rectified all shorts before re-fitting.

Found elsewhere one the net that the R11 is possibly 10 ohms, the R10 ?, so I took a chance and replaced both with 10 ohms. Tried it once, it worked. The machine has been run twice a day every day since. (execpt the weekends —once a day). Happy Days!!!!

Count yourself lucky, on the occasions that these boards do blow it’s normally a lot more serious than you experienced.
