    Hi all,

I have a hoitpoint WMA63 washing machine which has become very noisy especially on spin cycle. I noticed that there are some black coloured score marks on the inside of the door glass at 3 & 9 o’clock and I expect that the drum is causing this.

I’m thinking that the suspension may be weak/damaged but am wondering on how this can be checked? It also may not be the suspension so is there anything that may cause this?

The drum appears to rotate fine but I’ll take the top cover off today to have a look.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

🙁 I think you will find that its the drum bearings and drum support shaft

    Thanks Rich,

I had a look at the suspension and it looks OK. No signs of stretching of the top springs and the suspension arms at the bottom look OK too.

The drum shaft/bearing replacement sound like a big job. Is this quite straigh forward to do? From what I’ve seen so fae there is only an access panel for the pump/motor and belt etc. Can this be done with the drum in situ?

    TIA.

How old is this machine, if it is under five years old then it will be covered by a five year parts warranty. If it is over that then a local independent may be your best option. In most cases you will require a new rear drum half and drum seal, also possibly a drum support shaft. The whole drum has to be removed to repair. not a simple DIY job and not cheap either.

I think it’s either over 5 years or very near to 5 years old. I’ll check the receipt to get the exact purchase date.

I don’t think the wife would appreciate not having the machine out of action for a week to let me DIY! Fingers x’d its under the 5 years.
