ParticipantHi, seems like I only come back when I have a problem, well, yes, here I am again.
Everytime I have had a problem this forum sorts me out and supplies me the parts.
Anyway, looks like I need more spare parts. I will be stripping down the machine tonight, but thought I would just get the heads up….I think I know what the issue is, but lets see what you guys think.
I replace the drum bearing about 6 months ago, and its been fine until I noticed a few weeks ago, a rubbing noise, which sounds like the side of the drum rubbing agains the chassis. I pulled the lower trim off and to my surprise, could see sparks inside the down the right hand side and this is the source of the noise, an electrical arching, and not a friction noise.
I have of course switched the thing off.
So I am thinking motor. The machine will run a full cycle no problem, and it arches when the motor is accelerating the drum, not on freewheeling.
I see I can get the brushes for the motor, or does it sound like I need to get the whole motor unit.
Ill be stripping it tonight, so Ill let you know how I get on.
Cheers in advance.
Matt

If the brushes are well worn down then it will be worth changing them first.
If the is plenty of length in the brushes then it sounds as though the motor is on the way out.
A couple of different motors used but the WMA66 should have an FHP motor in it.

Another possibility is the wiring to to motor/heater chaffing on the front weight. The wires need strapping to the 2 holes on the front of the drum at the “4 o clock” position and pulling tight to keep them away from the weight. The “concrete” weights contain metal filings which makes them conductive!

In the end, I got a scrap motor of Ebay for £15 and its worked like a charm for a good 6 months now.
I could have changed the bushes, but did not have the time, so found this tested motor from a reputable washing machine dismantler about 20 miles down the road.
thanks again to this forum for all its help.
