ParticipantMy Wife has decided to break the door latch on our machine. 😥
In fairness I think the spring has been faulty for a while as she has always had to give it a hard push (with the occasional bang) to shut the door.I have found a complete Door handle Kit for a tenner.
Is this easy to change?
Is it worth changing? The machine is 8 years old – it works ok, although has its niggles.
Should i just bite the bullet and buy a new Hotpoint HV7F7140 for £240 (normally £400)Tx in advance

easy change but you can still use machine
turn on machine
set programme but dont press start
close door
gently press door handle towards machine ( not the door the handle in the door )
whilst still holding press start and wait till door locks
now let go and wait till prog finishes
you may have to press door handle again to releaseif you want to replace it it is an easy fix and you can get the spring only which is what breaks most of the time

Thank you Dave,
Unfortunately because the actual latch on the door has snapped we can’t close it it all as there is nothing for the lock to catch onto (if you understand me).
Sounds like it could be serviceable though so will do some more research before shelling out £200.September 3, 2012 at 4:17 pm #380616iadom

Don’t even think of replacing it with a new Hotpoint, they are low end, Indesit machines badged as Hotpoint. £400 is having a laugh, even £240 is overpriced. :rolls:
Totally sealed outer drum, suspect electronics. 🙁

try this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hotpoint-Cred … 19cebdd530
£5 delivered
to fit
there are 6 screws in the doorundo top and bottom ones
undo 2 screws by the door handlegently part door front and rear by handle and you can open it just enough to take out the handle as one unit and replace it
takes all of 5 mins very easy handle to fit
