    Good Evening,

I am hoping to pick some brains! I have a 7.5yr Hotpoint WMA76 which in its defence has been a dream washer and has not been a moments trouble until now.

When I do my washing now when it goes onto the spin cycle regardless what speed the water pours out of the door/ dispenser draw then holds water at the end. I then have to put it on a spin cycle a further 2 or 3 times for it to empty. The water does not escape from the door on subsequent spin cycles and eventually does empty.

My query is…….How do I check to see if it is blocked? I have had a browse through the instruction manual and there is nothing in there saying how I can check a filter would this be easy as I am a single woman!! If it is the pump would it be easy enough for a friends husband to replace? Or is is worth replacing a pump on a 7.5 year old washer that gets some hammer with two children at home or should I cut my losses on my beloved washer and think about a replacement?

I thank in advance for any guidance in this matter.

    Diane

    Hello Diane

Yes it sounds like you have a blockage there somewhere. If it does eventually drain ok then it’s unlikely to be a faulty pump and that’s the good news.

Bad news is you need to find the blockage…

Does the drain hose connect to the sink waste pipe? If it does have a look there first, disconnect the drain hose and hold in a bucket/large bowl then see if the machine drains quickly into it. If it does then the blockage is in the spigot on the sink waste.
If the hose fits into the top of an open pipe then the blockage is inside the machine…and where you go after that depends very much on your DIY ability! The blockage is most likely to be in the sump hose immediately under the tub, only accessible from underneath by tipping the machine back and using a screwdriver on it’s clip…they can be a little bit fiddly to refit too. Plug out at all times and plenty of towels handy to mop the floor…

Let us know how you get on?
