ParticipantGot a call to look at this machine, less than 2 yrs old apparently, customer reporting an 05 fault on display.
Put it on spin when I arrived just to check what it was doing or not doing (drum had a fair amount of water in it)it ramped up to distribute speed but no pump.
Was just about to switch it off to check the coin trap when the house RCD tripped and all went dead 😯Thought it was an ominous sign but took pump off (trap so full of coins, tweezers and other crap it couldn’t be unscrewed)
Checked for continuity through pump and put it all back together. No pump movement. 🙁
I had no time to take it apart again to check for a supply from the panel but it would likely be the reason for the RCD incident.
Does anyone know if these late panels turn up their toes just because the pump jams? If so, is it a possible home fix?
I think EMW do them but it would take my price over the manufacturers free parts deal.
Thanks,
Eddie.

If the machine is now totally empty then the pump will not run, it needs a few litres of water in it first, however the rcd going is not a good sign, may well have taken the board out. 🙁

Never had a pump take out the RCD, also there is no earth to the pump so unlikely.
If it was spinning when it tripped check the condition of the motor comm and any buildup of carbon from the brushes, Iv seen a few ark when it builds up badly around it,
The pump won’t run on its own without water but it should run on a spin cycle, stick it on an rinse and spin let it fill and the move it to spin. You should get the pump to kick in.

Ah yes, I forgot these late Hotpoints have the strange need to have the pressure switch triggered, maybe I need to have another look at that, got obsessed with the trip going off 😉
It does seem unlikely that a jammed pump would take the board out. I’m not sure what effect on the current draw of the pump a total stall has ?
Thanks for replies, I’ll post my findings 🙂

Went back to this one and did the empty the tub, disconnect /reconnect pressure sw pipe, fill with water via door palaver :rolls:
Put it on drain/spin and it went through distribute, ramped up to a slow spin for quite a while and still the pump wasn’t running.
Was just about to switch it off and start pulling it apart again when the pump finally kicked in.Seems to be working now as I haven’t heard anything from customer since, still no idea why the trip went, machine has no earth leaks.
Thanks again for replies 😉
