ParticipantHi All
I have a Hotpoint WMD960 machine that is about 2 years old. The machine washes fine, but over the last few weeks, the spin seems to have lost its efficiency. The 1600 spin at the end of the wash cycle used to leave the clothes almost dry, but now they come out a lot wetter. if you do a second spin cycle, the clothes come out almost dry, but it is a ball ache doing the second spin cycle. I have read up on here about the out of balance cycle, but as it has been like this for a few weeks, with various loads in it, I am reluctant to think the problem is that. Could something be blocked or something like that to cause this? The machine is not making any different noises or any more vibration than normal. Any ideas would be gratfully recieved. I am an electrician, and have no issues with striping the machine down if necessary. Many Thanks Paul.

Why would you want to stripe it. 😀
Some of these have the old style split drum, the later ones have the dreadful welded drum. If you gave us the full serial number and commercial code we could tell you.
The pump filter for the sealed drum is behind the lower front plinth/kickstrip.
For the earlier, screwed drum its inside the large black sump hose, access from rear back panel.

Hi thanks for the reply, I don’t really want to stripe it 😆 .The machine is as follows:
MOD WMD 960 G (UK).R
COD 30646370000
S/N 002259395
That is all the info I can find on it.
I have read the manual, and it states the machine has a self cleaning pump (if possible) with a collector pot at the front.
My old machine had a small pipe that blocked up, that in turn made it play up. I just wanted to know if thre are any comman problems that I could check myself, before calling an engineer out.
Thanks again Paul.January 21, 2012 at 12:15 pm #367572iadom

Sadly yours has the sealed drum. :rolls:
If you read your instruction manual carefully it should give you instructions on cleaning the pump filter, should be done now and again and always checked if there is a spin/drain problem.
No ‘self cleaning’ pump yet made is capable of pumping out coins, bra wires, hair bobbles, colour catchers, door keys, nails, screws and and the other rubbish that people carelessly put through their machines.
