ParticipantHi,
Got a hotpoint WMD962P(UK) washing machine.
When you press the power switch, the LCD will momentarily light up for a second or 2, and you have to continuously press the start button repeatedly to get the program to run.
If you miss the window of opportunity pressing the start button, the LCD screen powers off and machine wont respond to anything, until it is unplugged from the wall for a time then plugged back in and the process attempted again.
I suspect its the control module at fault located towards the bottom of the machine? As upon looking inside the LCD unit, there is not a whole load of electronics inside it, seems to be purely an interface like a keyboard on a computer.
So i suspect its the main control unit shutting it down.
If anybody could suggest6 anything it would be much appreciated, Thanks.
I have looked at replacement control boards, but understand they then need programming with a smart card and reader.

Well I’ve changed the main control board for a brand new part (which I got less than half price) got a smart card reader 2nd hand.. just waiting for smart card to arrive.
Is it normal though for an un-programmed board to power up the LCD, flash a load of lights, then shut off the screen?
Or do I still likely have a fault?
Guess I will find out when I get the smart card in the post to program it?
Does seem to be staying on though for longer than before!

We can only hope the smart card reader you bought will be compatible with PCB you are hoping to configure. I won’t hold my breath but do let me know when I can uncross my fingers won’t you?

Hi, it should be compatible as I checked the indesit part number of it, and my washing machine was on the list of compatible models.

Hope it’s compatible anyway lol.
It’s, C00272306
This page,
http://www.spares4appliances.co.uk/home … der-p97960
http://www.yourspares.co.uk/parts/hotpo … 72306.aspx
Says compatible with,
Hotpoint WMD962PUK
So unless that page is wrong I’m hoping it is compatible.

Right, got the card today.
When I had first installed the new board, it was powering on, flashing then going off again.
I programmed it today, by inserting the card reader with card into machine… then powering up the machine.
It flashed green for a while indicating it was programming, then stayed solid green for a few minutes indicating it had finished.
Unplugged the machine, then plugged it back in again and its not powering on at all now.
So doesn’t look like changing the board has fixed anything. Going to try a display board next.

Is this machine under five years old?

Smart thinking there Jim but the guy’s meddled with it big time so the guarantee is out the window. 🙁
He’s without a paddle on this one I fear.

Nope it’s over 5 years old now, as I never paid the normal price for a new board, I got the smart card for £10 in the end and I’ve got a buyer for the smart card reader at same price I paid. So all in all, cost me £90 to change the main control board and program it, only the display board which is going to put me over , warranty wouldnt of been void anyway as unless they keep detailed records of every part installed from factory, there’s no way for them to know parts have been replaced, it looks identical to how I found it.
Left machine unplugged for 30 minutes, and it now powers up fine like before the repair, powers on, then shuts off after a few seconds. But won’t power on again until left unplugged for a while… But programming was fine, it came up with the words hello before shutting off.
Shouldn’t be much else that can be at fault now other than the display board.

Blimey Jim your thought process is getting well deep on this one and I must confess. I did have to Google Sisyphus to figure what you were on about? 😉
Respect to the OP for his persistence but his quest is ending toward a blind alley I fear.
Perhaps a glint of optimism may be achieved if he consult EMW electronics for their advice? 💡

Considering on the machine, there is only 2 control boards, the LCD display board and main control board I wouldn’t of thought there can be much else wrong with the machine. To eliminate other components I can try unplugging things.
Main control board, even though it hadn’t seemingly failed, I now have a spare, and I’ve also got the latest software revision and board… Oddly enough, the original board seemed to of been factory faulty? It said “resoldering ok” on it… But why would you resoldering a working board, and as above the cost of the part and the programming came to probably only a little more than the callout charge.
Still cheaper than a new machine.

Still a poor quality Indesit machine. 🙁June 14, 2014 at 7:45 am #413972Click4
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WMD962P(UK) Problem
Yep, I know this now… The old control board had a sticker on it saying “resoldering ok” which to me implies it was a faulty reject board that was repaired then fitted to a brand new machine.
Pcbs shouldn’t need resoldering when new!

New display board, and all is fixed and working now 🙂 so card reader successfully programmed the new ecu previously.
