ParticipantHi, I’m new and am having problems with my Hotpoint WML 520P. It is 4 months old and is leaking from the powder/fabric conditioner drawer. It starts to leak when the cycle is on the spin and pump out of the wash. I don’t use powder in the drawer, I use liquid that goes in a ball straight in the drum.
I have had dealings with the seller in the past and it was such a nightmare to get a refund on a different item I just want to see if there is anything I can do to stop it leaking before I have to have contact the seller and have all that carry on again with a faulty item, where I am passed from seller to manufacturer while qouting the sale of goods act at them ❗
Any help appreciated, tonight I have taken out the drawer and cleaned it which was a bit gunked up with gooey fabric conditioner, and a friend said my water pressure could be too high, but surely if that was the case the machine would have leaked when I first got it, not 4 months later?April 8, 2009 at 9:56 pm #282718iadom

High water pressure is the most common cause of leaks. you must keep the drawer clean and turn down your water pressure using the tap connected to the machine. You need to hear a nice steady flow, not a loud whooshing noise.
Mains pressure can fluctuate causing it to leak now when it didn’t earlier.
If it leaks when it is trying to drain and spin during the rinse cycle then you may have a blockage, if it leaks when it is actually filling then its your water pressure.

Thanks for your reply, I will try turning the water pressure down. Do you think it’s too early to phone the shop saying it’s a faulty machine?

Far to early, its something that happens to lots of different machines if the water pressure is to high.

Thanks so much for your help, I have now turned the water pressure down as well, I also think I should get some Calgon or equivalent, as when I took the drawer out some of the holes where the water comes in have limescale on them, looks like the shower head all furred up. Is it true that bicarb of soda is as good as Calgon?

Hi
Calgon will be no good in dispenser ,as water in dispenser is incoming flow. Calgon goes in drum so only cleans the drum.

Thanks for your replies everyone. With the Calgon, I meant I was going to put it in the drum, not the drawer, lol.
Touch wood, fingers crossed etc etc, my washing machine doesn’t leak, I have done 6 washes since cleaning the detergent drawer, which I didn’t think was too bad but obviously was blocked with gunk, and fiddling with the water pressure.
So thanks very much for your help 😀

yes and it wont set in your drains like calgon will when it cools 😛

No.
Calgon has a specific use in hard water areas. Bicarb is an old wives tale, regurgitated by The “How Clean Is Your House” people.

obv water down here in the south isnt the same as elsewhere – even tho ive had people complain of how hard it is (i havent noticed) calgon seems to do nothing but gunk up machines round here.
