Complaint of trippng circuit breaker on spin.
Meggered everything in sight, visual check of every inch of wiring harness. No signs of any problems with either.
One thing I did notice as I removed the back panel where some strange marks and discolouration around the top screw, closer examination revealed two similar marks on either side near the top. The back panel was pushed in slightly and the drum pulley bolt had been catching on the inside of the back panel. There is no wiring anywhere near the back panel and the harness is securely fixed at all points with no signs of chafing.
I ran the machine on wash, rinse & spin with the back panel removed and it worked fine.
I have pushed the dent out of the panel and have left the customer to give it a whirl.
Has anyone come across anything like this, why on earth ( earth eh ) would the drum pulley bolt touching the back panel cause it to trip, all earth connections from motor & heater are sound?

Is it a brush or brushless motor?

Brush gear motor Tim,customer has just confirmed that it has completed it’s first wash in over a week without tripping, going to give it a go with a heavy load now.

As we know the drum bolt is earthed. So there must be a leak to earth somewhere? Could it just be down to static discharge at fast speed?

Not sure, according to a current franchised engineer there is a known fault on the motor that needs a pcb reprogramme and often a new motor. If that is the case why has it done two washes perfectly now after tripping every time before I pulled the back panel away.
I know that static can carry a hefty belt but the motor, heater earths are fine and the drum belt is supposed to be conductive to prevent static build up. 😕Jim.

Update, this machine has now worked perfectly for over two weeks. it tripped 4 or 5 times on the bounce before I pressed the back panel out, very strange. :con:

Had a WF series machine with ACC brush motor (IIRC) which had an intermittent tripping problem on spin. Turned out one of the motor wires was shorting to the motor end bracket where the wires entered through a rounded opening in the bracket. Have had same on a Hoover w/mc motor though in that case the motor plug socket had come unclipped from its bracket, causing movement and consequent chafing of the wires.

Their has been an issue on these with intermittent tripping as has been said but I would normally expect it to do it from the beginning if it was that issue.
I often find its carbon buildup in the motor around the brushes, when it gets to full spin you get a quite a bit arcing and it tracks across the carbon to earth. Some times a good clean of the motor solves it, an can of air spray does wonders.
But Iv have had a few where I have had to change the motor and or board to fully resolve it.
As or the pulley bolt hitting the back normally a sign of overloadingMay 30, 2013 at 8:26 am #394994iadom

As mentioned above, the back panel was pushed in and the machine was initially rammed back tight to the wall, that is why the pulley bolt was hitting the back.
Not only did I push the back panel out but I also told them not to push the machine right back.
They had the tripping on four or five consecutive loads of various sizes before I attended, none at all since. ❓
