ParticipantA visit to a Hotpoint WMS38S with door locked neon flashing revealed blown tracks on facia module. After agreeing a price to repair the module and replace the door interlock I sent the board of to EMW Electronics for repair.
The board came back very quickly and I went back to the washing machine a couple of days later. EMW asked me to also check for wires feeding the motor rubbing and shorting on the concrete block. When checking for this I noticed a slight flash mark on the motor commutator. I cleaned this off and replaced the carbon brushes. Fired the machine up and it did everything correctly, all fills, all spins and heating the water. I got paid and left the machine for my customer to catch up with her washing.
That evening I got a call to say it was doing the same again. I called down. Changed the interlock again, but still the door locked neon was flashing after it took in water and turned the drum once. I took the board off, but no visible damage this time. I apologised to customer and sent the board back to EMW.
The board arrived back today (Saturday), with an invoice for £5.87, but no note about what was wrong if anything. I have tried phoning, but due to it being weekend I had to be content with leaving an answerphone message.
Has anyone got any comments or advice for me?

ParticipantRe: The Hotpoint WMS38 and door locked flashing neon story.
Just thought I should post an update to this WMS38 saga.
On Monday I spoke to Lee at EMW Electronics. He said it was a faulty door interlock again, even though I had put the new Metaflex version on the machine. Apparently some can be faulty out of the box. ❗
I called back to the washer and this time gave the wiring a good inspection, and found another shorting wire. This time under the wash tub near the join of the two halves. This I repaired and secured. Then I changed the interlock again, but this time using a new Rold one.
All worked well and it has been almost 24 hours and no call of woe from the customer 🙂
