    HI there,
A friend of my has the mentioned machine. He asked me to look at it and when I put it on a wash it will start to fill then burst into spin, stop continue to fill, burst into spin again then stop alltogether.
I know that on hoover machines a damaged tacho magnet will cause this, is it the same for the hotpoint in question.
I tested what I thought to be the tacho and got over 170 ohms.
If it is as I suspect can the tacho be replaced on its own or would it need a new motor.
    Thanks for any replies

Yep! as the tacho is not available seperately 🙁 . It could however be a motor plug connection, loose wire to the tacho type of problem in this instant 💡

    Thanks for the speedy reply.
I imagine it is ideal to fit a Hotpoint motor, but I can get Hoover ones cheaper. Could I do that.

No way will any other motor fit but the correct one for this make and model :lesson:

Besides as its not very old it may well have a 5 year parts warranty on it anyway for Hotpoint to sort for you! 💡

Betcha its a wiring fault, especially if Hotpoint have replaced the drum at some time and not replaced all the tie wraps. Easiest way to check is to slip the motor plug (X1) off the module and check for return continuity through the motor. Be careful to exclude the interlock connections (three) which are on the same plug. One of the tacho wires will probably be O.C. so there will be no continuity across two of the connections.

:zap: DON’T FORGET TO PULL THE MAINS PLUG FIRST :zap:
