Hotpoint WMXTF 842 Drum Bearings

Hi folks,

I have a Hotpoint WMXTF 842 washing machine that I believe has faulty drum bearings. The spin cycle is very loud, the drum grates as it turns, there’s no resistance to the drum when I turn it by hand and there’s a bit of play when I lift the drum up and down.
Is it a simple repair? If not do you think it would be more cost effective to recycle this machine and get a new one (budgeting about £500 for it)?

all depends on age

under 5 probably covered by a 5 year parts guarantee. cost of repair is what Hotpoint engineers want to fit the drum as parts are free

over 5 years or not covered price of drum will be £150 or so plus fitting

rounded up to nearest whole number a new tank from Hotpoint is 203 quid. Now that has gotta hurt. You do not give the full model number as read off the machines label so this one has been picked out at random based on the info you gave. There are 10 versions though without spilitting hairs probably have the tank units….but best to check properly.
