ParticipantMy old iced diamond larder fridge broke so I looked in the argos catalogue and chose what I thought was the same fridge again.
When it arrived today I realised after the delivery bloke had gone that in fact this fridge was wider and therefore wouldn’t fit in my kitchen. All the packaging is intact apart from a bit of ripped cellaphane/plastic.
I phoned Argos and they told me that it is excluded from their 30 day guarantee so they can’t do anything. They then said they’d see if Hotpoint would bend the rules on this occasion and they said NO point blank.
I know this was partly my fault, although in my defence the fridge is practially the same in every way apart from the width being 59.8 insted of 54.5. Is there anything I can do as this is proving to be a very costly mistake!!!

The goods arent faulty?
So technically then no you cant do anything about it. Pays to shop at your local independent who would be alot more forgiving in such circumstances 😉March 18, 2007 at 1:34 am #208001DJ-ApPlIaNcEs

Dont you get the 14 day cool off period? (sorry no pun intended) contact you local citizen advise bureau for help. I think Argos have over steped the mark on this one. 🙂 Found this on there site that could help too
Please note that all white goods are excluded from our normal 30 day guarantee. Our Customer Satisfaction Guarantee complements your statutory rights, which of course, remain unaffected.

Thanks guys – I went down the customer satisfaction route in the end.
I first of all went down the proper channels of speaking to Argos direct and they said their hands were tied as Hotpoint delviered the fridge direct and wouldn’t take it back becacause of the 30 day exemption guarantee.
After stressing I went and spoke to the manager at my local Argos who took pity on me and fought my cause. Things were still progressing slowly so I decided to just turn up on Argos’s doorstep with the fridge in the hope that as I had physically returned the product then they would refund me.
I had some tense moments whilst the staff phoned through to get an authorisation code but in the end they said yes. I’ve no idea how Argos are getting Hotpoint to collect the fridge though as they were still proving difficult.

Nice one, I’m all for a bit of direct action. I remember some years ago one of my ‘competitors’ who had a reputation that placed him firmly in the Wild West of the USA, had a customer return a washing machine, he had seriously ripped them off with regard to a repair, or lack of same. They returned it through his shop window. 😆
I am sure you accept that it was your mistake but I cannot believe that a bit of common sense was not applied in the first place.
Jim.
