cant even be sure it doesnt have a welded tub?

    you could try the heater?

If you can’t get it from the heater hole and it’s a welded tub, you could drill a hole through the top/back of the tank and poke a wire down. Reseal using appropriate methodology. Sounds drastic, but if the alternative were a new drum…

Sounds drastic.!!!!!!!One step to far for me cutting holes in the drum and then hoping to reseal it.If it is stuck at the back between drum and tub its going to be abit of a mare.I think your best bet is heater out and try and fish it out with some wire .If you carnt get it out without damaging it and it is a sealed tub tell them to give hotpoint a ring or its ber. 😥

I always thought drilling holes in plastic drums was for cowboys but I noticed recently that Electrolux recommend this very thing for changing drum paddles in some of their machines. They do supply blanking bungs for the holes though.

    Hi rolf,
I’ve successfully repaired several plastic drums on Servis ( including one condemned as needing new drum and BER by engineer called out under guarantee) and Hotpoint which have been holed by coins etc. Good money to be made in helping people to not BER their machine. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, nobody’s forcing you, it was just a suggestion. It doesn’t take too much genius to work out a way of re-sealing using appropriate method and materials so you end up with a drum which is at least as strong and quite possibly stronger in the repair area than it was originally! (Hint: don’t just plug with hard setting putty as plastic flexes).

Hi leaveme, I was in no way having a dig at your ingenuity. In fact I like your pragmatic approch to what could become a common problem.I feel it is one thing to try to repair a tub damaged before you arrive another to start cutting holes in the tub.I have had varying success trying to repair damaged tubs .Maybe Im doing somthing wrong .I would be greatful to learn your tried and trusted technique. 😉

I’ve got to ask you then Mike, what size hole do you refer to and what do you use to successfully seal it afterwards that will be a permanent repair? 🙂

See my post here, servis tub repair
That’s how I’ve been doing it for coin holes in the bottom of tubs.
On the top of a tub where the water is only going to be pressing during spin, I would make a perfectly round hole of the minimum possible size to get the sock out or a wire in to get it moving towards the heater hole, and use a suitable rubber blanking grommet and debor. You’d have to be careful to choose the right spot for the hole, away from ridges and curves as far as possible. Soap dispenser hoses and steam vent hoses fix to the top of tubs using this principle so what’s the problem? Obviously you get your ducks in a row (as Ken would say) by finding the grommet first, then getting the right size of drill.
I reckon none of this will be necessary anyway,as suedehead will get it from the heater hole if that’s at the back.

I’ve used Leakfix many times to repair Servis, Beko and Hotpoint tubs. Mainly where the plastic has been pushed out but not missing or small holes and this has worked at the bottom as well as the top of the tub. I also duct tape over the repair if at all possible.
