ParticipantHi
I have a Hotpoint WT540 Washer.
It is Just, Just over 12 Mths old.
Suddenly started overfilling to the point of water coming out of Powder Compartment when running and Prewash Light Flashes.Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a pressure hose problem. Do you do a regular maintinance wash in your machine as this helps to prevent the problem.

At this age I would suspect a blockage in the sump filter first.

Hi are you sure that the drum is filing right up and then out of the draw or could it be possible that its just pouring out of the draw and not even making it to the drum? as i have had socks get stuck between the drum and outer tub that work there way up to the hose between the tub and despenser draw?

Thanks for the tips.
I don’t think its anything to do with the drain as it overfills as soon as switched on before drainage is needed.
It fills about halfway up the drum and then when running it splashes out of the powder draw.
Could this be the level sensor.
Cheers

MoscowI refer the Honorable gentleman to my first post, the pressure chamber for the water level switch is combined with the sump hose where you will find most blockages. 😉

Hi Jim
Just checked your recommendations.
The Filters are really Clean and there is no blockage.
Still doing the same.
When I put machine on pump out it empies as fast as always has.
Any other ideas.

The pressure switch itself is not prone to failure, at least not as much as the main control PCB which can also cause this fault. It may be time to take advantage of your five year parts warranty, prewash light flashing can be caused by a faulty fill valve but that usually prevents the machine from filling. Tiny holes chafed in the thin plastic hose to the pressure switch can also cause this but again not common on this model. It really is getting to the ‘get someone in’ time I’m afraid.
