Hotpoint WT540 relays clicking.

I’ve just been wasting my time looking at this HOTPOINT WT540. Switched on, door locks, then relay on PCB starts clicking, machine tries to start then stops, but relay still clicking away. Tested pump,heater,valves,thermistor,wiring, even changed PCB (EMW), still same fault. Help please!!!

Motor runs when spin cycle selected, but only briefly. It seems everything works, but only for a few seconds. Just this relay clicking constantly.

Had one similar a few days ago…. Tis turned out to be Faulty Motor Brushes

Just thought you’d like to know that the fault turned out to be the wiring harness, although can’t see any damage. New harness fitted, all OK. Thanks for reading.

Got my first one of these, WML540 with PCB clicking away.

Did you replace the complete wiring harness, its listed at £70.00 :eeek:

Update on this one. (WML540)

After checking all wiring connections and motor brushes I sent the PCB to EMW for test/repair.

When it came back as repaired (£53+) I thought great, sorted.

I did have a cursory look at the returned PCB and could see no obvious signs of component change etc, this of course doesn’t mean that hadn’t happened. ( it was the original PCB 😉 )

Sadly when fitted to the machine the fault was exactly the same. As soon as you powered up the machine and the door locked the PCB started making a steady clicking noise. This suggests very strongly to me that no matter what was done to this PCB there was in fact nothing wrong with it in the first place. 🙁

After going through all of the connections again I was starting to get frustrated.

I didn’t/couldn’t access the mains plug on my first visit as it was boarded in at the back of the cupboards and switched off via an isolation switch above the worktops.

With the customers permission I ripped the back out of the cupboard and soon found the culprit. The neutral in the wall socket was loose and burning. Plugged the machine into another plug via an extension lead and it worked perfectly.

I did ask Tony for his observations on this and asked if EMW kept any record of what was actually done to repaired PCB’s but was told that due to the numbers involved it was not possible.

So its one to watch out for if you get the machine lighting up perfectly but with a clicking PCB.

Best way to deal with EMW is to get them to send you a replacement board, provided it’s in stock. Then if it doesn’t fix the problem you send it back.

I presume you have checked the motor? is the machines insulation resistance ok?

This was two years ago Mal, and as I have not had a call back I assume it was fixed at the time. 😉 😀

Doh! 😳 never noticed the date! Strange that it came up as an unswered post for me to take notice of it in the first place. Website isn’t a bit iffy is it? I know it is slow
