ParticipantGot one of these with a ‘foreign body’ trapped between front of drum and tank so I need to split tank open to remove.
First time on one of these,
any advice before I go back on procedure for splitting tank open as there are no bolts etc. that I can see.December 9, 2008 at 10:49 am #271092iadom

If there are no screws visible then it has the dreaded ‘sealed’ outer drum. The only way in is with a chain saw or a big lump hammer. 😥
Unless you can fish the object out via the heater, sump outlet or by removing a lifter you are stuffed. :rolls:

Thanks Jim.
When I worked for Hoover many years ago I was awarded a silver pen for suggesting a cost cutting measure that probably saved the company millions. (ok. maaybe not that much) but it looks like the end result of these cost cutting emloyee suggestions has resulted in….
😈 An outer tank that cannot be split !! 👿
Got an idea for Hotpoint to rebrand under a new, posh sounding name

You should really be blaming the Indesit Company but they are not alone.
Jim.
PS. I was once awarded £25.00 whilst working for Hotpoint. It was at a time many years ago when they changed the large four pole motor on the top loader to an awful pathetic two pole job. Even after enlarging the pulley and clutch shoes, changing the clutch shoe material and the belt they still had spin problems.
I suggested adding an extra anti squeal spring to the outside of the clutch pulley to help dissipate heat and reduce clutch fade. They tried it and found that it did improve the clutch performance. That is why the pulley had the two springs on it thereafter.Jim.

Sorry Jim, didnt mean to slag off Hotpoint of old, plenty of their trusty old machines still going strong and putting money in our pockets, and like I keep emloring my customers, if you still have a WM machine, hang on to it for dear life for both our sakes!
Looks like I am going back with an array of magnets, mirrors and bits of coathanger tomorrow morning as well as a print off of the article you kindly directed me to via the link.
I must be leading a sheltered life as this is the first sealed drum I have come up against.

There is a WT741/1 that has a screwed drum and a WT741/2 that has a sealed drum. 😥

easiest way to tell is NO filter at front =screwed, filter at front = welded

Managed to remove obstruction which was out of sight just under front of drum,
and the tangled bra wire left a lovely little hole somewhere around the back of the lower concrete weight. Water poured out,
another one bites the dust…
Customer said she was going out to buy the cheapest machine she could find!

yes 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} with small holes, get a gas iron and just melt the hole shut, obviously with larger holes its new tub time.

I have used my soldering iron for years if poss I try and fuse it back together from both sides and then put some d-bore on for good measure.even for larger holes you can use some excess pieces of plastic or off another tub to fuse back in.I have never had a single one leak in all the years and it keeps the cust happy.
cheers chris
