ParticipantCurrently replacing the bearings on my hotpoint ultima, stripped out drum etc without any issues or difficulty but finding the shaft wont budge from the bearing housing despite a good few rattles with a hammer.
currently have the drum sitting open end to floor and shaft at top whilst both parts are together. not sure if sitting rear half on supports would help but the plastic seems flimsy when not sitting over front half
any tips appreciated as it seems an easy fix otherwise.
regards

Stand it upright with the shaft vertical. Soak the shaft with WD40 and leave it overnight in the hope the WD40 soaks down to the rusted front bearing. Then turn the drum sideways and get heavy with the hammer in the hope you whack them apart.

A12hour soaking of WD40 could make the task easier. Also swearing at it, in Italian of course, whilst thumping it with a hammer helps! 😉

You must split the outer drum before you make any attempt to remove inner drum.

Outer drum has been split and is housed together loose

Well don’t start wielding the hammer until the front tub half has been removed for goodness sake !!!

well it took a fair pounding to shift it, now cant remove the outer bearing after knocking the center out of it, oh joy!!

More joy awaits you when you discover the state of the drum support shaft and realise that needs replacing too! 🙁

Both appear fine but doubt im going to get the remainder of the bearing out so may have been a waste of time lol

Oh? A bit of improv and a cold chisel helps. 😉
A bit of the Evren Yurtsen spirit needed methinks. 💡

4mm h/s/s drill bit, start from halfway and guage 3 (tri) or 4 (quad) grooves down inwards to inside of bearing housing in tub, and then cold chisel (edge in grooves) the remaining edge of the bearing race with no less than an 8lb sledge hammer. you will get it out, after about 20 mins. just be sure your grooves arent too deep they extend past the outside edge of the bearing, otherwise the obvious water ingress will happen. it is a bit of a bodge but its the quickest way, HTH

Drill wouldnt look at it so modified a screwdriver by bending the end to a curve and again giving a good few skelps. Now to add the bearings which seem much tighter than those in the allparts videos lol
