ParticipantI’ve got a 2.5 year old Hotpoint thats decided to start acting up tonight.
Was on cycle 10 and 15 minutes into cycle it tripped the whole house circuit breaker.
Reset it and put it back on after a quick check, 10 minutes in it tripped again so started to troubleshoot it.
First put it on the spin & pump out cycle to empty the drum, that worked fine still with the load that was in (3 bath towels). Then emptied the washer entirely and ran it through cycle 10 (60 mins) with no load in the drum andthat worked fine.
Then put 1 bath towel in on cycle 10, it got about 45 minutes through the cycle then tripped.
Temp was always set at 30 degrees for all the cycles.
Opened it up, can’t see any evidence of water leakage onto anything – any tips / advice where to look next.

If you have a megger or suitable multimeter the first thing to do would be remove the mains plug and check the heating element for insulation leaks, quite a common failure on these Indesit machines.
NB putting one or even three bath towels is likely to cause an out of balance load.

Thanks for quick response, got a multimeter yes – any idea if the element is front or rear on this model, got limited access space in the utility room
Could it be weight load related or am i barking up wrong tree ?

Problem identified. One of the support arms in the bottom of the washer decided to break free from the framework(ripping a hole in it) and this has rubbed against the cables going to the pump.
Looks like new machine time unless I can rivet a plate in place and replace the cabling 😯February 5, 2017 at 11:02 pm #445064iadom

Cheap Indesit tat. 🙁
There was a repair kit for that type of chassis break but not sure if it is still available since the Whirlpool take over. ????
Constantly washing small loads of heavy items does put a strain on the suspension.

Suspect you have the model number wrong as well. 😉

That would explain the limited results google gave me, Hotpoint WMXTF 942 extra
Part number 1398937OH seems to include the shockers and plates, not sure that plate is big enough to fit the void left by the breakaway. Think i’ll get a new plate made up a little longer and see if can save the machine.

Already guessed that after checking all the possibilities just now. 🙂
The parts list does show a ‘repair bracket’ in the parts list but not in the diagram, you could search for a C00286055.
