Moderatorarrived at a call tonight to repair a dryer and replace a grill element
when i got to the door the customer greeted me and asked me to wear a mask as his wife was due out of hospital and did not want her to catch any unnecessary infections. I of couse agreed but when i got inside i was confronted with this
did make me think that the possible infection i could offer were not his real problem
any how fixed both appliances, grill element on the cooker and the power chip on the tumble dryer

ParticipantYou are a braver man than me, Dave, What a sh———t hole, You should have asked them to supply a decontamination unit as you don’t want to end up in the hospital with God knows what —lol

ParticipantHad that, and worse, stepping over bags of rubbish and belongings filling the entire living room and kitchen, several cats and their by-products in the home, flies everywhere due to food being left out and fridge not working. Luckily, it was for a relatively quick job on a washing machine and the lady had had the forethought to leave the back door open for ventilation.
With hindsight I wonder whether the kind thing might have been to explain the problem, politely refuse to carry out the repair, and to contact relevant authorities to get her help. I found out some time later that the local GP surgery employed someone to help cases like these, the lady had come to their attention, and had subsequently passed away.

ModeratorAnother day in the life of a appliance repair engineer, it still amazes me that people still don’t t know how to use bleach and a cloth

ParticipantI’ve had a few like this…
I get straight in the shower when I get home!
One of those customers called me back a few months after my first repair with a different problem, and I declined. But yeah how ironic they wanted you to mask up to protect them. Perhaps they thought they were immune to whatever lurked in their home… As it happens your mask may have protected yourself from them!! 😀
