how bright should a magnetron be on a microwave?

can anyone help me. im still fathoming out a repair on a microwave.
can anyone tell me how bright should the magetron glow ?

Cant say Ive ever watched a magnetron glow nor would I want too….
The magnetron emits microwaves, I know it gets hot whilst doing this but for safety sake never ran a microwave and watched the magnetron. sounds really dodgy and brings back all the warnings of cooking your insides…..If your looking down the end of a magnetron its like watching a bullet coming up out of a rifle barrell….Scary.
Sure the bulbs not gone….

hi thanks for the reply. yeah, this microwave has been scrambling my brain alright, for a whole week, lol

i used a mirror and hid behind a metal sheet, but i just wondered, if anyone knew the theory, of how bright it should be.

you may also want to consider thses b4 you cross over

staring at the sun directly for 60 mins
or
holding your breath under water for 20 mins
or
by passing wm door lock and sticking your head inside drum whilst on full spin( quite scary)
or
why not go swimming with great whites …

Seriously, you can do yourself a lot of damage on the wrong side of the HV (high voltage ) or the end of a magnetron.
Looking at your last posts, buzzing microwaves if this is connected. assuming that the microwave is actually cooking and noisy it could be the transformer or even a broken magnet on the magnetron. Rule of thumb though to run the LV side and the transformer disconnect the secondary side of the transformer, this will allow you run the transformer and all upto it. Never run the HV side with the covers off and dont forget to put something inside to absorb the energy (glass of water etc).
Always discharge the capacitor to the case before going inside after this has being running.If your unsure though leave well alone its not something to dable with on the off chance.
Its possible that the transformer will only be noisy when under load. i.e running with the HV side working.
Is it an expensive oven???????

is it an expensive oven, yes, trade price they cost £550 each. ive got 2 to repair.

i suspect the magnetrons are at the end of their life, but at £110 each, its an expensive part to fit if i am guessing.

there is 3v to the magnetron, they both meter ok, i just wondered if they are supposed to glow really bright or not.

hi, thanks for your reply, not the best to help, but at least its a reply and you say you re all ears.

here goes;

after output wattege test it is only pushing out approx 1000w. it is a 1500w microwave,

the customer complained about it not having full power.

the magnetron is reading less than 1 ohm.
and open circuit across termina to body is zero, confirming it is not an electical fault

the voltage to the magnetron is 3v.

from what i understand is that magnetrons wear in time and become weaker.

is this true?

one more question which may help me alot…are magnetrons interchangeable from make to make, provided they physically fit and the wattage output is the same?
