Hi, I am about to set up a white goods repair business, having worked in the trade for many years. I am CORGI registered, though I would prefer to work on non-gas and non-refrigeration appliances.

My problem is that I would like to be able to respond to a customer’s call by accessing details of their appliance by model/make and instantly identifying price/part.

Let’s say somebody says they have an Electra appliance. How can I find out the actual make?

I know that cd roms are available, but would I be able to obtain them freely?

Thanks to anybody who can give me some advice

    Regards

    First things first.

You need spare parts so you need to set up an account with a wholesaler. They have spares catalogues and cd roms available, usually for free. They have all the info you would need to identify Make, Model, Part description and prices Etc Etc.

A number of wholesalers are listed here under “Web Links”.

Hope that helps you on your way? Tough trade to start up in though…best of luck!

Thanks for the reply, I will start contacting suppliers. Yep, it’s tough, but I think its better to have a tough time self employed rather than a tough time working for a company who doesn’t care whether you get home at 9 every night!

Instant price and availability is really only gained (if you mean software wise) via Connect and Washvac as they are the only two as far as I know that have the capability to do this with their own IT stuff.

As Martin said both of these are in the weblinks section of the site, Connect supply their “Connections” DVD free of sharge to account holders, Washvac use a system called “Stocklink” which I believe they still make a charge for (which is why I refuse to use it ;)) But, they do have a website ordering system that will give you “live” information as well.

    Best Of Luck 8)

    Dave.
