ParticipantHi, I’m hoping someone can help me please.
I have a Hotpoint Ultima S-Line tumble dryer. Model sutcd97b6gm.
There is a loud rumble which I’m sure is coming from the motor bearings. I’ve changed the jockey wheel but the rumble is still there. I can feel movement in the motor shaft so I need to remove the motor to fit new bearings. Unless anyone has any other ideas as to what it could be?
I can’t find anything on YouTube for this type of machine so if anyone can give me any pointers on how best to get the motor out I would be very much appreciated.

ModeratorRemoval of motor is a major strip down and the bearings are not designed to be replaced in this type of motor. A new motor is approx £116 so you may be better off letting Hotpoint repair it under the five year parts warranty.

ParticipantThanks for the reply. The picture of a replacement motor looked like it would be straight forward to pull the bearings off. But if the strip down is that much of a pain I’ll probably take your advice and give hotpoint a ring. I think the call out is £135. Cheers.

ModeratorWell as a suggestion
get Hotpoint out to fit the motor
see if the engineer will let you have the old one
then you can try to strip it at your leisure and see if you can change the bearing if they are the cause of the problems
from your point of view you may well have a spare motor and if you do break it you wont void any warranty
from our point of view if you are successful then if you would be good enough to come back and tell us so we know its possible
We are only the sum of our experience in this trade and I have not seem a drier with this motor yet so it cant be that old

ModeratorIf it’s anything like as unreliable as the dreaded Askoll dishwasher motors you may be seeing plenty Dave. 🙁
