ParticipantI have one of those ubiquitous 6″ x 6″ Xpelair extractor units on my bathroom wall. It was there when I moved in 5 years ago and I have no handbook for it but it needs a good cleaning inside to remove the build up of fluff and dirt etc. It also vibrates sometimes and I suspect I need to tighten up any fixing screws. Does anyone know how to remove the front cover, please?
I have no model number but the unit seems very similar to the latest version, except that it has straight horizontal protective struts across the 4″ diameter air venting hole and it has no power indicator light on the lower front rhs.
There are square cutouts in the top and bottom edges of the front cover and there appear to be securing lugs down in these holes. I’m assuming I have to exert pressure on them to release the cover but, given the age of the unit, I don’t want to risk breaking anything.
Can anyone either identify the model number and point me at an online manual or just tell me how to release the fixing lugs, please?
Thanks.

If you go onto the Xpelair web site you can see various models illustrated with schematic diagrams of each part. Usually the front grill is held on underneath with one screw and pull in forward and upwards to unhook it from its top lug fixing.

Thanks. I looked on the Xpelair site before I posted here but I got the distinct impression that they only include current model details. I’ll go and have another look.
Stop Press: I had another look at the Xpelair site but with no better luck so I’ve posted my query using their online support facility.

Cracked it 😀
What I thought were plastic lugs at the top and bottom of the unit turned out to be steel retaining clips and, by pushing them inwards in turn, I was able to pull the face plate slightly away from the back plate. The back plate then started twisting rather alarmingly, partly because it was only fixed to the wall using two screws and partly because three pins, fixed to the front plate and slotted into holes in the back plate to provide an electrical supply, were a tight fit and required some force to extract them. A more forceful pull that I had previously used soon did the trick.
If anyone is interested, the extractor model number is DX100T. I would be quite interested in knowing when this was last available from Xpelair.
