    I have the spare part, but can’t seem to get all of the old plastic bit remaining inside the lock. Do I just get a pair of pliers and heave at it?

    Would you be referring to the door handle/latch by any chance? The door hinges are steel as a rule. 😕

    yes, door handle latch is the bit.
