How do you solder carbons to Bosch motor?

I’ve never before attempted to solder these carbons onto a Bosch motor brush unit before, until that is I bought a pair of carbons recently. Now the old brushes are spot welded into place and the brass like material doesn’t allow ordinary solder to adhere in their place? So how is it done without it being a complete bodge I wonder? Special solder required, ‘cos ordinary solder doesn’t work I have discovered?
