Hello, I have a gas oven; it’s got a dial with numbers from 1 to 9
1,2,3 are equally spaced, then 4,5,6,7 are close together and then 8 and 9 are a little farther apart

The flame seems the same from 4 to 9; how is this supposed to change the temperature?
I can see there is what looks like a temperature gauge, but I’m not sure what this does; the gas needs a spark to ignite so I can’t imagine it would cut the gas supply when the temperature is reached, because it couldn’t turn it back on without a spark.

I’m surprised I haven’t found any information about this after googling it for 30 minutes, so I hope someone here can enlighten me…

As the oven get to temp the flow of gas is lowered. when you first turn on after the flame failure device has allowed the gas to flow. the flame burns at full height and only lowers as temp rises

once the oven is hot you will see the flame rise and fall as you turn the knob
