with the streets ever more full of cars and double yellow lines how far would you or your engineers be prepaired to walk to a job (3 streets away quite common down here) and is everybody watching the costs of getting to jobs this year alone 4 parking tickets @£35.00 1 speedeing fine £80.00 and 1 drivers course £100.00 and aprox £5.00 a week for car parks. added bonus most roads in portsmouth 20mph speed limit my van loves driving around in 2nd gear looses about10mpg so now down to 15mpg with fuel now getting higher this cant go on with current rates of pay

What a tale of woe there…..less than 2 months into the year and you’ve racked up those stats…wow! I don’t do contract stuff so if I can’t park outside it’s a no for me.

In certain areas I will only attend if I can park with my vehicle in direct line of sight and in daylight.
Not walking through dodgy areas with my valuable kit on my back.

I think about 8 yards is the furthest I have to walk to a job 🙂

But then again I can travel 10 miles between jobs and not see another vehicle.

thanks for the traffic update martin last day for 4 weeks today singapore mon for 2 weeks then aus for 2 weeks and no driving !!!!!!!!

working in London with more places having residents parking only, I now have a bike and a backpack on my van so park outside the zone and sometimes have to cycle a mile or so with tools and parts in backpack to do the jobs, not many other options available, so have done this for the last 3 years or so

working in London on a daily basis we start our first call at 6am and have done for the past 15+ years. No wardens no parking restrictions.. it’s only the lazy unemployed scroungers that won’t and don’t get out of bed and moan..Well there is the other lot that state were too posh to get out of bed and our house keeper doesn’t start till 9am.

Well those are the ones who also moan that there appliances are fixed in short time but the majority we have no problems withers we start at the furthest point and then work towards the outside of london avoiding most of the traffic most of the time.

if it’s a chargeable call and they won’t have an early call then we add £50 on top of the normal call charge and they don’t have a problem paying it.

The doorbell rang this morning at 6:05. (Two guys coming to replace a faulty glass splash back in my kitchen as it happens). They phoned yesterday to warn my they’d be calling ‘real early’. They both came from Walthamstow (65 odd miles away) and had to pick up the glass from Brentford on their way here. I asked what time they get up of a morning ….”about 4:30 mate during the week but lie in ’til 5am on Saturdays” :snig:

have to walk a bit in city centres but if there is a parking charge they pay. its not my fault that there is nowhere to park. quite often adds £12 onto a bill to park.
now residents only schemes are another nightmare. residents round here are only allowed 2 permits (and they have to pay for them) and if they have 2 cars game over. wont stay unless they can give me a permit or they pay the parking charge if I do. most of the time the client sits in the window looking for blue banded traffic vultures ( traffic wardens)
