    Hi,
I’m considering to apply for a job as white goods engineer with BG (of course i don’t know if I’ll get it), but before I do I wanted to know if anyone here works or worked for them. What are your experiences?

One of the local Indesit lads was BG, he does not have good things to say.

Its not really the engineers fault with the lack of knowledge as they have to work on every make, any thing problematic get pushed back to the manufacture.

Your more like the first line of fault repairs, you do the basic stuff, put it this way Iv turned up to calls where BG had left the rear half for me to change on a Hotpoint V2 so they won’t do to much.

The main downside he said was its 7 day shift work so could be working all sorts of days and a very limited selection of parts so it difficult to get your bonus.

I’ve heard their standards are pretty basic. That you can read and write and find your way around a laptop then you’re in. Your greatest skill needs to be ‘good PR’ because your daily lot will be dealing with many very angry customers watching you like a hawk. 25k for a 37hr week plus a basic overtime package means they will squeeze every ounce out of you once you are sat behind the wheel of that little blue van…!

Actually you are not just a white goods eng, you have to do house electrical as well. Including 24Hr callout on rota, securing fuseboxes to 17th ed, you are also followed around by SAE electricians who will report you if you leave a gap bigger than 1mm open anywhere on a fusebox. (sackable offence)The training is minimal, 10 jobs a day. Need I say more… !

Dunno but they seem to be desperate to get staff.

My old man did a stint for them a few years back and it was exactly what AC-DC outlines.

I’ll never forget the day they sent him to Dumfries (from the Kilmarnock area) to flip a trip switch. At 2am. He wasn’t a happy teddy.

    Hello again AC.
AC DC is quite right. We both have ‘experience’ working for BG.
Dont do it if you want to maintain your sanity.
9 year ago when I started with them, it was a good place.
In their efforts to become a ‘safe’ workplace, they have destroyed everything which made them good. The management regime is brutal and bullying. Before I ‘left’ we were on up to 10 jobs a day. Mileage did not seem to matter to them. Jobs could not be returned unattended without a big row and numerous phone calls, (if you could get anyone to answer one).
Every job, even the smallest, took 45mins at least with all the safety checks/barriers/at risk forms etc.
A good place ruined by little jumped-up brainwashed hitlers.

If I saw Lee Parker in the pub .. I would stab him. Of course ..if he was going to go into such a risky place, he would have his stab vest underneath his hi-vis jacket !!

I’m glad I am shot of the place.
I keep my two-inch thick disciplinary folder, documenting my failings, in my van … just to remind me of how good a life I am now having away from the bastards.
