ParticipantHello all
I know all the things I have read here about how much better it is to have separates, but I am about to move to a much smaller flat and can only have a combined unit, so I am willing to spend money on a good quality one. I am considering an AEG Lavamat 16830, so I would first like your thoughts on that machine.
But also – info I cannot find anywhere is how long a wash and dry cycle might take. What I would like to know is, if I put in a 2.5kg load (normal stuff – not all jeans or the like) – to wash and then dry, any idea roughly how long the whole process might take? People I know who have had them say that washer dryers just take too long and, with effectively only washing a small load each time, the machine would be on almost constantly.
I’d appreciate any help with both these questions. Thanks.

Hi.
I strongly suspect that the AEG is actually a Zanussi by another name. As for reliability, I cannot comment (never used a washer-drier), but others will I’m sure.
As for the time taken to wash and dry, I suspect it will probably be in the region 3 – 4 hours.
Remember also, that an ordinary tumble drier has much more space to move the clothes around, so washer-driers tend to create more creasing and less even drying. They will also increase your water consumption, as they require cold water to condense the steam out of the air: something to consider if you are water-metered.

They are pretty good overall, fairly reliable although extended warranty is an advisable option to consider?

A 40 degree cottons wash with dry cycle (3.5kg max) would take approx 4hrs 20mins 🙁
Not very eco-friendly overall but then no washer dryer is. A load like that would cost around 89pence including detergent (excluding the price of the product of course). So far cheaper than a Launderette! 🙂
