How long should it last

I purchased a Smeg D16012 Dishwasher in October 2012. The motor is starting to make a burning smell, before I go back to the retailer I wanted to get information on the durability of the product i.e how long I could reasonably expect it to last.

As you will have probably read it is a minefield and yes some of the areas are a little grey but they will give you a very good insight.
