    Re: how much to charge?

    Hub assembly is £61 list.
    Element is £35 list.
    Both plus VAT.
1.5 hour work to charge, ‘cos the hub’ll fight you all the way.

    Nice expensive job……… 😀

What’s the hourly rate? Bit less for the second hour…….

    Personally, I’d charge £178.

Galway, Afriad not, its a complete change of the hub, which includes the bearings and seal.

Them hubs never wanna come out, Penguin is about right with the cost,
still worth doing if you can get the job though.

    Re: how much to charge?

Bearings on an AWM 321 are mounted in a bolt-on hub assembly in the back of the tub. The idea is to save you time by not having to pull and split the tub. If there is an after-market bearing kit to fit the hub, it’s news to me.

Hmm, just punched this up on SIOS, and the bearings and seal are listed as being available to fit the hub assembly.

Procedure would therefore still be to dismount the hub from the tub rear, then try and knock out bearings and seal and replace them. Probably going to add more time though.

    Re: how much to charge?

Chris…. is this the Bauknecht s/s drum assembly using the same type of bearing and ‘V’ wiper seal assembly as you advised me about around 2 months ago? That machine was a AWM323. If so, I fitted bearings to the cast spider and the wiper seal with no problems at all. Putting it back on was ‘interesting’ to say the least……. :rolls:

    Re: how much to charge?

    Hi Steve,
No, it’s a perfectly standard Whirlpool two part “clamshell” tub on this one. The difference is the bearings are in a dismountable housing in a sleeve through the back. Undo a few bolts and it should lever out backwards, saving you from stripping the tub down.

Sorry about the Bauknecht – should have mentioned that you need four hands :innocent:

Plastic drum with hub assembly…..hmmm…..the perfect ‘character-building’ exercise!! :snigger:
Thanks for the info about the AWM323; I thought it was my lack of flippers that was causing the problem…….. :innocent:

    Cheers,

    Steve.

    Re: how much to charge?

Got a probable bearing job to look at on one of these Wednesday coming. Have tried on a couple in the past but in both cases could not get it to shift. They were well gone though, whereas I know the customer in this case has excellent hearing and a certain familiarity with things mechanical.
Can anyone recommend a suitable puller? Is there something for the puller legs to hold onto?
    Mike.
