I bought a new fridge a few days ago and it seems to be cycling/running the compressor too often. I notice and it’s important because it’s in my dorm room.

It runs (and gets noisy) around four or five times an hour. I thought it should run that many times in a whole day!

I can’t measure the temperature until Monday, but it seems fine.

I’ve also done a checklist of sorts:
    – Fridge is on medium setting, but does the same at low setting
    – There is plenty of room for air to circulate
    – It is opened only two or three times a day
    – It is not full, just a few bottles and fruit inside
    – It is in a room with consistent (not too warm) temperature
    – It is not close to windows or heaters
    – Nothing is obstructed at the back

    – There are little drops of ice along the back wall of the fridge (interior). I defrosted it until they all melted earlier but it has happened again (not that I think this partouclarly unusual)

Also, the drip tray is non removable but looks fine.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

(I called them yesterday and they said it sounded okay and might be down to it being new, but I don’t think so. And they’re very slow so the call cost me GBP 8.00
The model is LOGIK LUL55S10, from Currys (UK).

Re: How often should a fridge cycle (run compressor)?

A standard fridge or fridge freezer will run about 60-70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s powered.

A frost free can run up to 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s plugged in.

So, I’d suspect that what you’ve got is normal.

The rear wall thing is a self defrosting evaporator mounted behind the inner wall you see. That’s completely normal, if you don’t get ice forming you don’t get cold air so I’d be more concerned if you got no droplets of water and/or ice.
