How to access the pump?

Hi There, Can anyone help me with a few DIY tips to check before calling the Engineer! I have a Hotpoint DWF50 which has packed up – Lights 3 & 4 are flashing (eco and fast) and its not draining. 😥

Having read a few posts here it appears the pump maybe blocked so a few “how to….” tips would be a big help and possibly save me a bob or two! 😉

I’m not affraid to have a go myself but it helps if someone is pointing you in the right direction! 😕

Follow the waste hose backwards toward the machine, you’ll find it soon enough 😉

A pump finding update and some advice (long)

Ok so following Dave’s “wise” words of “follow the waste hose backwards toward the machine, you’ll find it soon enough” has led me to a number of different components. 😕 Now what? 😡 Having removed I dont know how many screws to then find various components none of which seem easily accessable is a little disappointing!

I was hoping that as a “support forum” a little more “detail” may have been available to assist. 🙁 Its a bit like visiting a specific motor vehicle forum with an engine fault and being told to lift the bonnet and you find the problem under there!! – somewhere!!!!! 😡

So in summary, in this instance, the lack of “dishwasher support” has led me to take the “Pay 90 quid to Hotpoint” option but at least I will get it fixed! 😯

Guys – PLEASE take a leaf out of the car forums and try to post some useful step by step instructions to help solve some of these issues else I fear that the Manufacturers will continue to charge large sums for what may be a simple DIY repair!

I really hope the engineer doesn’t turn up on Monday and spend 10 minutes removing some crusty old piece of food that has found its way into the pump and then leaves with all working fine! 👿

I think I may just be back for another rant if thats the case! 😈

Firstly, this isn’t a car forum it is an appliance forum, appliances carry 240V AC which can kill you if you don’t know what you are doing, we also have legal obligations on what we can and cannot tell you which the motor industry does not.

It is on the assumption that you would be aware of what a pump is or what it even looks like before attempting DIY repairs, hence my reply. It follows logically that as a pump will “pump” water through the waste hose to drain the machine that the pump will be on the end of it at some point does it not ?

I assume that the time was not taken to read the sticky at the top of all the public forums ?

A long time since your orginal posting but I have to say it was very easy to find the pump (took only 6 screws). Dismantled it in no time and found the problem (now I have to appologise to my wife after I accuesed her of breaking a glass – it was the dishwasher all along – the large fragment of glass had jammed the pump)
Put it all back together and it works fine.

Maybe not… incorrect loading by users (cramming items in) can lead to glassware breaking as the items expand in the hot water. Clinking items against each other as you load the machine, can set up stress fractures which are then opened up by the hot and cold temperature variances.

So basically, “She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed” could still be guilty! 😉
