I have an Indesit BDE 861483 and I recently brought some “Ace for Whites” laundry bleach and I have no idea where/how to add it to my machine. It recommends on the instructions to add it to the “CL compartment”, which seems to be a compartment that only exists in the minds of the people who wrote the instructions as searching on google for the “CL compartment” only returns results about this specific brand of bleach. Maybe it has another name like “bleach dispenser drawer” but looking at the instructions for my machine there is no bleach dispenser.

The instructions on the back say if you don’t have one of these imaginary “CL Compartments” and I want to use fabric softener as well as bleach (which I do), then I need to start a “pre-wash” cycle, then add the bleach “while the water is running” (whatever that means) and then immediately start a “wash cycle” once the bleach has been added.

These instructions make no sense to me. As far as I know I don’t have any “pre-wash” cycle on this washing machine, at least nothing I can select manually. And even if I did have a pre-wash cycle, I can’t just magically tell the machine to move to a different cycle when it’s in the middle of a wash, it does what it wants when it wants and my only options are to pause or cancel the wash, there’s no option to change cycles once it’s started.

Can anyone help me out here? I only paid £1 for this bleach so I’m not too bothered if I’ve wasted my money on it but I’d like to make use of it if possible.

I’d add it to the liquid detergent section of the drawer and start a short wash cycle. When the machine pumps out for the first intermediate spin, let that spin finish, stop the cycle and then start your desired cycle with normal detergent.

It’s not ideal, but it’s the best compromise I can think of.

Can you give the complete model number please, there should be some letters after the BDE 861483. this can be found on the inside of the door.

I’d probably put it in the fabric conditioner compartment, run a standard wash to completion, and then put some fabric conditioner in and run just a rinse cycle.
