I have a Whirlpool Gold, American Collection washing machine – top loader type. Had a problem with draining, which was diagnosed as needing a new clutch. I have the clutch – how do i fit it!!

I have instructions but I stumbled at the first hurdle, couldn’t find a way without forcing/breaking the centre piece.

“remove centre piece in drum, you will find 12mm bolt, remove this. Tip machine over, you will find 3 13mm bolts holding gearbox up, remove and carefully lower motor/gearbox down, it is only necessary to change clutch ring in casing, using pliers this can be done by squeezing in spring and lifting up and out, replacing like for like. Or remove gearbox completely, disconnect motor and pump, then it is easier to fit clutch but more time consuming.

How do i remove the centre piece – I can’t see any bolts!!

    Cheers,

    Re: How to fit clutch

the centre piece is usually just pressed on ,its a tight fit so a considerable ammount of force is required to lift it off
