When you are left with the bearing sleeve stuck fast on the shaft, firstly clean away all the crud, file away any deep grooves and give the collar a good soak in WD40.

Then using a small blow torch, directly heat the offending collar. This works the WD40 under the collar. THEN (and this is the secret) using a spray can of PIPE FREEZER (used by plumbers by the way) spray directly onto the collar for about 3 seconds or so.

Using an old rag or similar form of protection, pull the collar free!!!
Provided the shaft is clear and clean it should slide straight off as it has expanded in size due to the extreme cold.
