Fitted a new door seal to one of these this morning. whilst testing i noticed a tingle when touching the casing. A test revealed no earth continuity from the plug pin to the casing.

the mains cable on these machines has the mains filter moulded to the lead and the earth connection is made through the bracket being fixed to the casing. A moulded plug is fitted to the other end of the cable.

This machine is approx two years old and the cable is never disturbed being plugged in all the time ( so not subject to broken conductors through constant flexing) so i am perplexed as to how the earth connection has failed – always assuming that it has not been like this from new!!!

Also on the subject of mains cables, went to a Bosch machine last week WFX145SGB not much more than 12 months old. The connectors on the mains filter were welded together blowing the fuse. The reason – Bosch have dispensed with a cable entry clamp (must be too expensive) and the wires just pass through a cable grommet. A light pull on the cable and out it slides and pulls the connectors off.

The machine was leaking – hole in the door seal caused by bad seal design (ie. it had rubbed a hole in itself).

    So much for Bosch quality!
