Huge buildup of gunge in soap box

Hi,

Whilst fitting a new water distributor in my AEG Oko Lavamat 72620, I noticed that there was a huge buildup of old liquid soap gunge inside the soap box (not the soap drawer which is relatively clean).

Whilst I liberated as much of it as I could using kitchen towel and various blunt pokey implements, I’m concerned that it may build up again over time.

I’ve read elsewhere on this site that using Affresh and/or a 90C maintenance wash with Ariel is recommended as regular maintenance, but I have never done this. I know, I know…

But the articles mostly refer to build ups of limescale etc.; would these kinds of regular maintenance tasks also help to prevent the build up of soapy gunge that I have seen?

Is there any advantage in using this product over a 90 degree wash with biological powder ? I don’t actually have a visible problem and do regular maintenance washes. I know…I’m a good girl me 😆
