This dishwasher has had very little use and was working perfectly. It was then disconnected, cleaned and stored for 15 months. I have just fitted it into my new kitchen but it doesn’t operate properly. Initially I ran a rinse cycle to check for any leaks, it ‘appeared’ to fill and empty OK.

Having done my bit, my other half refilled the salt, loaded the machine and switched it to the main wash programme, but it didn’t fill with water, the control dial operated and stopped just short of the next programme. She then manually turned the dial to rinse, but again it didn’t fill.

The mains water supply was OK and the fill solenoid was buzzing, but I was not sure if it was working properly so I removed the solonoid along with it’s attendent plastic ‘resevoir’ and applied 240v and it operated OK ie water flowed through. I then reconnected everything ran a main cycle and the machine burst into life with the sound of filling water. it then paused and I assumed it was running a heating cycle…but it didn’t.

The water remained cold and the machine stopped. It did begin spraying (ie washing) and also drained OK but I think I advanced the machine manually for this to happen. I re ran a main cycle but now it won’t fill and the solonoid just buzzes.

So..any ideas as to the fault or how I can narrow it down and isolate the problem.

Fingers crossed I think I’ve fixed it, thanks in the main to all the info gleaned off this site, so thanks to those who post.

It may help others to let you know what I did. On one post someone mentioned the large plastic contraption (sorry I forgot the name) hidden behind the left hand side panel of the machine. I decided to have a look at this and completely drain it. I also found a tiny bit of debris (plaster from the house renovation) in a float chamber within this contraption.

I also checked the reading on the thermostat, heating element and the inlet valve as well as that wiring loom that loops under the door. All the readings seemed satisfactory anf the wiring was pristine.

I also ran another test on the inlet valve taking it off the machine, connecting it to a water supply and applying 240 v. it operated perfectly. I then sucked on the small rubber tube and the valve closed and made a buzzing sound – which people have mentioned previously and which I’d heard on my own machine when it was malfunctioning!

My best guess is that there was some sort of air lock or vaccum caused by the big plastic device and it’s myriad water and air channels that stopped the fill cycle from operating properly. Once I’d cleaned and drained it the fault was solved. Or the inlet valve may have been stuck or is possibly faulty. Anyway I’ve just run a full cycle and all seems OK. Fingers crossed it stays that way! 😀

Glad you got it sorted but, for future readers of this post, we just need to point out that live testing such as described here should not be carried out and can be lethal.

Live testing = very bad and very dangerous.

What’s been done here is extremely dangerous, even for those of us that know what we’re doing. Several jolts over the years have taught me how to use a test meter.
